Tips & Tricks

Washing

As we mentioned above all of our products are known for their strength and durability, along with the fact that they are 100% dishwasher safe!

For the longevity of your dinnerware and the planet, we recommend using environmentally safe, gentle detergents such as Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Dish Soap (our favorite scent is Lemon Verbena), Seventh Generation, or any other low-acid brands.

Scratching

Fun fact: It is commonly believed that scratches on ceramics are due to the dish, however it is actually due to the silverware! The ceramic itself doesn’t scratch, rather the silverware is scratching off onto the plate, leaving what looks like scratch marks— fascinating, we know!

Some reasons for this are: the quality of the silverware, the matte finish of a glaze, or the pressure we put on our silverware as we’re enjoying our food. If you do find that you see scratching, whether on your Convivial products or any other ceramic product you use, we recommend using Bar Keepers Friend. A wonderful product for removing scratch marks!

Thermal Shock

Every glazed piece of Convivial ceramic is fired up to 2,262 degrees F, also referred to as Cone 7. With this in mind, it’s natural to think our pieces would be able to withstand the heat of an average conventional oven. Not quite! Ceramics can be sensitive to sudden changes in temperature. Placing a piece in the oven at a high temperature, then removing it from the heat source can cause cracking, as known as thermal shock. Same goes for the low temperatures of the freezer! If you would like to warm up a plate or bowl at a low temperature of 250-350 degrees, proceed with a bit of caution! Our pieces have not been tested and approved for oven safety. Overall our wares are best suited for serving, rather than cooking!

Our Materials

Featuring our Minimal Dishes Minimal Serving Bowl, and Minimal Ramekin Dish.

We provide two types of clay; a ivory porcelain clay, and a stoneware clay. We have proprietary recipes for our clay and our glaze, sourcing raw materials for each and adjusting as needed to maintain consistency. All of our products are both lead-free and cadmium-free, as well as food, microwave and dishwasher safe! They have been surveyed, tested, and approved by a third party for these standards.

Now that we’ve provided you with beautiful ceramic wares and the knowledge to keep them looking flawless, we hope that you enjoy countless meals with your loved ones while creating memories of conviviality. After all, we create the wares, you set the scene!
